Storm Takes Out Bobcats Power

10-30-09

Craig Smith

DESERONTO- The Elliot Lake Bobcats arrived in Deseronto tonight to a power problem. A gust of wind knocked down a hydro pole near the arena putting fallen wires around the visiting team's bus. The team was stuck in their bus until safety crews could turn the power off and ground the wires. Mechanic Street did remain closed until well after the game would end.

The Bobcats started the game with electricity as they scored first and less than four-minutes in. Derrick Pilatic was the scorer and Kevin Filthaut got the assist. It turned out to be the only goal in the opening frame.

During the intermission Head Coach Andrew Clark must've said something to spark the Deseronto Storm as they came out and tied the game early. Andrew Bobas got the goal from Brad Clark and John Sweet 5:24 into the second period. It wouldn't be long before the powerful first place Bobcats would take the lead again. Matt Rogers from Elliot Lake snuck one in. Branislav Jankovic and Grant VanSlembrouck helped on the go-ahead goal. Then in a confusing final minute goal Deseronto tied it before the break. Ryan Brant scored the unassisted goal, but then ended up in the box. Brant was assessed two-minutes for roughing while Jake York of Elliot Lake got two for instigating. The bench staff from Elliot Lake went ballistic as they believed Todd Munden was the player that should be in the box instead of Ryan Brant. Never the less play would continue until the buzzer when the teams went to their dressing rooms tied at two.

Another early goal came in the third period. Elliot Lake took the lead again 3-2 on a goal by Roman Jurak. Deseronto would later capitalize on some open ice getting their second 4-on-4 goal. Jeff Morris scored the goal with help from Tyler Poole and Cam Edwards. However, Tom Rush would score on a frustrated Travis Elvin to again give the Bobcats the lead. Deseronto would crawl back into it though. Pilatic would be assessed an interfence penalty and the Storm scored. Cam Edwards got the tying goal and the one that would send it to overtime.

OT was short and for the first time this season Deseronto would get the extra point. It came just 19 seconds in and Cam Edwards would slip it in with help from Todd Munden and Andrew Bobas turning out the lights once and for all for Elliot Lake.

Storm vs. Minden Riverkings

10/03/09

Craig Smith

DESERONTO- The Storm were able to steal one in Minden Friday could they sneak by again at home?Well, I wouldn’t exactly call it ‘sneaking.’ The Deseronto Storm took advantage of the Minden Riverking’s thin bench Saturday night. It all started with captain Brad Clark just 53 seconds in. Cam Edwards would score the eventual game-winner at 8:22 of the first and the Storm didn’t look back from there. Fast forward to half way through the second. Deseronto, on a 5-on-3 , took advantage. Edwards scored his second of the game and Andrew Bobas got his first. Meanwhile Brad Clark picked up his fourth point as Deseronto led 4-nothing. Minden would however slide one past Travis Elvin once they got back to full strength. Ricky Wolf would be credited with the goal from Bryar Hill and Mitch Vasey. That was it though for the Riverkings. Deseronto would score three more.  Jeff Morris, Bobas (2) and Kirby Maracle would get the goals. Once again Clark would add three assists to those goals. Making the night a seven point night, in the 7-1 Storm win, for Brad Clark.
